Four cycles of modified ear-to-row selection applied to the San Geronimo Race of maize, are compared with the objective to estimate the changes in characters of each cycle. Experiment are installed in Junín region of Peru at 3292 masl of height, 12º.00´ south latitude, 75º13´ west longitude in EEA Santa Ana of INIA Huancayo in 2012-2013 crop season; complete design randomized with six replication, five treatments; installed in four rows of 5.0 m of length; 0.8 m distance between rows, 0.2 m distance between hills, one plant per hill, 8.32 m2 plot size with 52 plants per plot, equivalent to 62,500 plants per hectare, fertilization N (120 kg ha1), P2O5 (80 kg ha-1), K (60kg ha-1). Characteristics observed are: Grain yield, weight of 1000 grains, days till male and female flowering, blister, milk, dough stage; physiological maturity. Leaf disease resistance and plant aspect. Compared the cycles the analyses suggest that the average of yield of each cycle are statistically different. Cycle four is different to cycle two and three; but both are no deferent; those are different to cycle one and zero; the last one is different to cycle one. Cycle zero was estimated in 767 kgha1 of grain yield; cycle one 1,609 kgha1, 3,077 and 2,745 kg ha1 cycle two and three; finally four cycle 4,175 kgha-1. By another hand, the population makes earlier, improve plant aspect and leaf sanity especially at leaf disease. |
